Against the Wind

Little perplexed how some might get e.e.cummings but NOT the Beatles…. Until you stop and think, maybe you needed to be there… But then no not really besides the ones who really were there can’t seem to recall much, sort of like the joke about the “pig with the plug”… Ok then its a true matter of perspective… Cummings was and true and major production of the establishment who made a very conscientious decision to become a disestablishmentarian (not sure how much cognitive dissonance he suffered as a result of this being a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard… On the other hand, them Beatles were a bit of an enigma from the very beginning and remain much as such to this very day. That’s the point, they were not, and never really were, part of the “establishment”… They were not only revolutionaries as far as their music was concerned but rather across the board.

Given the perspective of time its obvious that Paul McCartney was the force behind The Beatles commercial success but John Lennon will remain the cornerstone of their historical inclusion into something more than just a popular musical group doing silly little love songs. John was the tour de force behind both their political and sociological impact upon the psychology of a generation. Together they changed the world.

Now some of the latest generation were captured by the unbridled materialism of our time… Not having much of a moral compass and protected from much of want, or fear, it is easy to see how they might lose track of constitutional constraints and become more pliable to accepting the ideas of outlandish assault on the Constitution by the likes of a Bush/Cheney style of neo-fascism

The reason one needs to make such a distinction is because, not of a “lost generation” but on the contrary one that never seem to feel the need to look any further than their bank account in the prosperous land of milk and honey. Its simply not their fault, the emperor’s new threads seemed real enough, their 401 k told them so… Now the snow of this illusion has vanished and after all the bailouts and ballyhoos have failed the world will begin anew.

The university said it was the first postgraduate taught course on The Beatles in the United Kingdom, and possibly the world.

“Possibly the world?” So potentially there are more idiot ’schools’ offering these programs? And the spokesman for Liverpool Hope University couldn’t be bothered to research that?

I say give them the title. I would like to think that Liverpool Hope University is carrying the torch for the entire universe with respect to first and stupidest post-graduate program in the history of time.

I think the good news here is that Liverpool Hope University has nothing to worry about. Clearly, the enthusiasm level is high – like Bob Dylan high. I will simply issue the same apology I always do: I totally don’t get The Beatles.
That stated, I guess it will just be little old me raking in the cash with my golf course design degree and riding the waves during the surf studies program

Of course all this materialism is, in large part, the reason we are such slaves to the institution… “You better free your minds instead.” Most, I trust, will “get it”… Sooner or later… All ya Need is Love!:)

Viva la Revolution! For all those left toothless and grinning at Wal-Mart here is a little something against the wind and perhaps a big thank-you to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for their unadulterated greed and commitment to a culture of corruption that brought us to this point.

  2. Bringing It All Back Home (1965)…

This album also begins with a stone cold classic – “Tangled Up in Blue.” There’s not much not to like about a song in which each chorus chronicles a year in a lost friendship. Genius, really! The album then curves its way through songs of break-up (…
